About The Role

At Scudamore’s we pride ourselves on being committed to staff training and development, supporting our new recruits from day one through their induction, on-boarding and training programme.

As we prepare for our busiest time of year, we are now looking for two enthusiastic and talented individuals to join our Training Team as River Tour Guide Trainers to help develop our next generation of tour guides.

What you'll be doing

This role is central to ensuring that our trainees and new hires are equipped with the tools needed to deliver an outstanding tour experience for our customers, and to do this you will;

  • Deliver our in-depth river tour guide training programme, which blends classroom-based theory with practical sessions, including tour knowledge, information delivery, and soft skills.
  • Run practical outdoor sessions on the punts, teaching trainees the art of punting and working with them on tour presentation and content.
  • Create a learning environment that caters effectively for different learning styles and encourages trainee involvement.
Most trainees are learning the tour knowledge and punting skills from scratch, so offering ongoing support through coaching and constructive feedback is vital.

Why work for Scudamore’s?

Founded in Edwardian times, Scudamore’s is Cambridge’s premier and longest-standing punting company. With three boat hire stations and over 175,000 visitors each year, we are also one of Cambridge’s most popular and high profile visitor attractions.

Our success has been built upon being clear about what really matters and this informs every aspect of our business.

  • As a long-established independent company, our business expresses a strength and assurance based on decades of experience.
  • Our story is intertwined with that of Cambridge itself, and we aim to serve as ambassadors for the city and its rich heritage.
  • We enjoy our work and we want our customers to have fun while they’re with us, in an accessible, safe and welcoming environment.
  • We’re an inclusive company that welcomes everyone and wants to bring the pleasure of punting to the widest possible audience.
  • We are both the founders and the custodians of punting in Cambridge, respecting the river and its traditions, yet always exploring new ideas to improve the experience we offer.
  • We aim to keep the knowledge and skills of our staff growing through continuous development.
  • In sum, we see our job as making punting the best it can possibly be, for residents, visitors and our people.
