About The Role

PLEASE NOTE that we have currently paused recruitment but you are welcome to add your application to our waiting list and we will be in touch when we re-open recruitment. Please specify on your application if you are interested in full or part time work.

Founded in 1910 Scudamore's is Cambridge's premier punt tour and boat hire company. We are now seeking lively, outgoing and commercially-minded people to promote and deliver our award-winning punt tours of the College Backs.

Whilst previous sales, guiding or punting experience would be useful it is not essential as we will provide all the skills and knowledge training you’ll require to launch your punting career. We’re open all year round and operate a rolling recruitment programme with regular training courses running each month. Both full-time and part-time roles are available.

What's involved?

As a River Tour Guide at Scudamore’s you’ll act as an ambassador for Cambridge, giving a warm, considerate and attentive welcome to our visitors. Your duties will be varied but ultimately your role is about 4 things: -

  • Delivering a memorable punt tour that is informative, inspiring and entertaining.
  • Offering effective and courteous ticket sales within a competitive environment.
  • Providing a timely, consistently high-quality service in line with our values and standards.
  • Maintaining a safe working environment for all.

  • Full training and uniform provided.
  • 28 days’ paid annual holiday (pro rata for part-time staff).
  • Pension contributions.
  • Career progression opportunities – cross-departmental and management positions open on a yearly basis.

What availability do I need?

This is entirely up to you! We’re open 12 months of the year and offer both full-time and part-time hours. Some of our staff work full-time all year round, whilst others with family, study or other job commitments come to us mainly at weekends or during holiday periods.

Our training process

Our approach to training is unique to us and is the gold standard for visitor attractions in Cambridge. Structured as a 1-week paid immersive course, we combine on-site classroom learning with practical sessions on the river and further opportunities for self-practice.

Special demands of the role

This role is physically demanding and requires you to remain on your feet throughout the working day in various weather conditions. In addition, the punting element requires good balance and an appropriate level of fitness. Please note, as with all of the other criteria above, these requirements may be tested at interview.

Need to know
